ABOUT DR NEL
Dr. Christelle Nel completed her MBChB (1999) and MMed Paediatrics (2009) at the University of the Free State. She continued to serve as a specialist paediatrician within the South African Government Sector. In 2021, she completed a two-year subspecialty qualification in Developmental Paediatrics through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, as well as an MSc in Child Health and Neurodevelopment at the University of the Witwatersrand.

A Developmental Paediatrician is a paediatrician who has completed advanced training in the neuroscientific foundations of typical childhood development and a wide range of neurodevelopmental disorders, including conditions affecting coordination, language, attention, reading, memory, and nonverbal functioning. Dr. Nel consults with children who present with developmental concerns or who are considered high-risk infants, such as premature babies, with a focus on early diagnosis to guide appropriate management and therapy.
Her special interests include speech and language disorders, autism, cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment, and ADHD.

As a Developmental Paediatrician, Dr Christelle Nel provides specialised assessments, diagnosis, and management plans for infants and children with developmental, behavioural, and learning concerns. Her approach is grounded in neuroscience, evidence-based practice, and a deep passion for supporting each child’s unique strengths and challenges.
